Background processing


Background processing, also known as “black box processing”, “shadow processing” or “automated processing”, refers to processes that are neither visible nor influenceable for the user.

In the context of document creation, output management and customer communication, background processing refers to automated, system-controlled document processes for the creation, optimization and output of business documents. In contrast to batch processing, background processing is more typical for creating small quantities of individually designed documents. It is typically triggered by an employee who, for example, is processing a business transaction such as a loss report, new application, contract change, and so on, and ultimately wants to produce the necessary documents to notify all persons affected by the business transaction. Alternatively, background processing can be started by the system on an event-driven or schedule-driven basis.

Automatic document processes

A major advantage of dark processing is that, with standardized procedures, a system such as Serie M/ can perform all routine document creation and output management activities in the background without user interaction. Repeat structures can also be used to ensure, for example, that all persons affected by a business transaction are selected from the database and notified accordingly. This means that the system automatically creates complex document sets with different contents for different people for a business transaction.

This reduces throughput times, improves processing quality, and gives employees more time for specialist tasks such as individual customer care. Using the business logic, Serie M/ can also be set up so that, for example, standard documents are automatically processed in background processing and only those that require user interaction are directed to the workstation of the responsible employee.

In addition, the script language of Serie M/ Logic can be integrated into the document processes so that the system can start data-driven actions. Whether it is the targeted forwarding of a document within the framework of the dual control principle or process integration into external systems such as ECM, BPM, MPS, etc., the system can be used to control the document processes. Corresponding interfaces ensure the integration of Serie M/ into the existing IT landscape.
